Who will he be?

As time draws closer to the arrival of our little man I have begun to wonder what he will be like.

What colour will his hair be?

Will he have blue/brown/hazel coloured eyes? Will they be big or small?

Will he be blessed with his Dad’s jaw line, or many chins like mine?

Will he be tall? Fingers crossed he keeps his Mum’s long legs!

Will he enjoy sports? Will he play AFL or will cricket be more to his liking?

What career path will he take? Will this shirt from Dr J be a crystal ball for the future?

Will he like cocker spaniels? Silly question - of course he will!

One thing I know is that he will be love love loved and I hope I can be the best Mum for him.

T Dog Tuesday

Heya team!

Much has happened in my world since we last spoke. The biggest news is that I turned 3, so I am well and truly a big kid now!

Look, being the smart cookie I am, I know there is something suss going on here. Mum has kind of put on a few kg’s (ok, I’m being nice, she has put on more weight than my sister Stella and that is saying a lot!!), there has been a lot of weird furniture being bought into my house and I have even noticed a few toys arrive in shopping bags that have certainly not been passed on to me! She has also been spending more time in bed - no complaints here!

Plus, I think my Mum missed the memo, but she would look stupid pushing me around in this contraption – I am a dog lady!

I am continuing my investigation and will be sure to keep you all informed with my findings. Hopefully it’s not another dog, as I’m still trying to get rid of the last one that moved in. Nothing gets past T-Dog!

Showering Baby Blue

A couple of weeks ago I was very blessed to have a baby shower thrown for my by besties J and K. I was a little hesitant as to whether I even wanted one, as even though I can be quite self-centred, I am just awkward with these things. My biggest fear around my birthday is: when people sing me Happy Birthday:

‘Where do I look?’

‘How should I stand?’

‘Where do I put my hands?’

Gahhh I am so hopeless!

Anyhoo, J and K were really excited to host my baby shower (I am so lucky) and knowing they would do it how I wanted without any of those horrible, horrible games put my mind at ease. We did play guess the baby’s name, and my favourite would have to be Miss C’s who has claimed #babybuchanan2014 as her own!

The afternoon was just delightful. The sun was shining (Perth doesn’t really do winter well) so we sat out on K’s deck with the most gorgeous Donna Hay inspired food, drinks and décor. #babybuchanan2014 was very spoilt with the most fabulous of gifts and a big shout out to R for the beautiful cake.

I must admit that since my shower I have been a little bit more excited about meeting my little man. Maybe as it has made impending motherhood a little more real. What I do know is that A and I are so lucky and thankful to have such supportive family and friends who will love love love our little man.

Girl in the flat shoes...plus one?

So.....A and I kinda did this.

I have always known that I wanted children in my future, but never really thought of when this future was. So we thought we would "give it a crack" thinking it would take a while, and BOOM! After less than a week #babybuchanan2014 (yes he already has a hash tag) was on his way.

So here is what we know about our soon to be family member:

  • He is a blue baby (A was very pleased with this news)
  • He has long legs (just like his Mum)
  • His estimated due date is October 9
  • He is on the larger end of the scale so may be evicted early (but as my midwife said to me, "Being so tall, you would look stupid with a small baby" - and I have to say, the woman has a point)!

I have three weeks of part time work left, so I look forward to sharing the next exciting adventure with you all.

Amazing wines!

A couple of weekends ago, A, sister K and friends K and C headed down for a long weekend of wine tasting, beaching (way too cold!), shopping and general laziness.

K squared and I managed to get through quite a list of watering holes in the four days, with these being some of the highlights. We visited Aravina Estate, Wills Domain, Ashbrook Estate, and Fermoy Estate Wines. Amazing!

I even manged to collect a wedding reception package from Eagle Bay Brewery (hint hint A).

I must admit that by the end I felt particularly toxic and full of preservatives, but boy was it a great weekend!

One of my favourite parts of the world.

Baby O update

So the littlest love of my life has finally touched down in his home town of Montreal. In tribute to the wharf workers in his fine city, Baby O has come up with this delightful ensemble. I think that he has done tremendously well considering he is only just over four months old. The block colouring with a hint of nautical is genius! He will be a top model yet.

Isn't he divine?

Easter Craziness

Sorry I have been a bad blogger lately! Times have been cray busy with work and the Easter long weekend.

A man and I received the first draft plans for our renovations on Thursday which was very exciting. We decided to hit a few bathroom and kitchen shops for inspiration, and we did surprisingly well with agreeing on various colours and designs. Can I just say that I never realised how many options there are!

Friday saw me hosting Supper Club with friends J, K and T. Everyone brought a dish, with the only rule being that you have to make something you haven't made before. Here is my attempt at an asparagus salad and lamb with feta and eggplant from Donna Hay's Fresh and Light cookbook.

On a trip to the Barossa Valley last March with K and J, I entered a competition and won this magnum of delicious Shiraz. It was absolutely amazing!

Saturday and Sunday involved gathering with family and friends on several occassions, eating and drinking waaaayyy too much, resulting in most of Monday being spent doing nothing more than this.

Now after five days off I am back in the slammer, dreaming of my next getaway!

Baby love...

This pic was taken on Baby O's last night in Perth. He is now jetsetting through Singapore and Bangkok before heading back to Montreal.
I miss him.

Up, up and away...

The time has come for my Mexican-Canadian-Australian family to go back home to Montreal. The time has flown by and I am very sad that I won't be able to see them all the time. Little O has grown and changed so much in the six weeks that they were here, and I will miss seeing him grow up.

Being so far away from Perth, I am not sure when I will see my sister E and her husband O again, so Skype will have to suffice for now (at least until human teleportation is legalised). I have really enjoyed having them around.

Safe travels!

Away with the Fam...

I have taken today off work and I am off like a bride's nightie. We are headed down to my favourite place ever!

Sister E, Big O and Baby O have been in Melbourne for a week so it will be great to have some family time again before they head back to Canadia in mid March.

I hope you all have a great long weekend!

A very proud moment

In 2009 A and I were at a crossroads as to what to do with our lives. We were living in Sydney (with A's parents...) but I was desperate to come back to the west. I scored a job in mining and jumped on the plane back home quick smart.

Being the love of his life, naturally A had to follow me, but wasn't sure which way he wanted his career to go. After much umming and arring, eventually he enrolled in a Masters of Logistics and Supply Chain Management (it's a mouthful I know!).

After three years of study, including hundreds of hours of lectures and tutorials, and countless dreaded group assignments (every student's nightmare) - he has finished!

And as icing on the cake, today we are celebrating A receiving the award for being the top of his class. I am very proud!

Do you believe in the big V?

Everyone has their opinion on Valentine’s Day and usually it is one of two extremes.

Option A – You think it’s the most romantic day of the year, and you enjoy spoiling the love of your life (or love of the moment) with over priced flowers, chocolates, fine dining and even maybe a bit of raunchy underwear for nooky later on.

Option B – There is no exchanging of gifts as you don’t get caught up in all that ‘commercial crap’. Every day is Valentine’s Day in your relationship.

I think A and I are more of an ‘Option B’ (without the last part as that is a load of shite made up by lazy people) with a little of ‘Option A’ which I think I force A into out of guilt. Hey, there’s no manipulator to see here people!

I did awake yesterday morning to a lovely card (top pic), and  I gave A his card (middle pic) and slipped a cookie into his bag from The Sassy Cookie with the hope that it wouldn’t get lost in the abyss that is A’s work bag.

I hope you had a lovely Valentine’s Day whether it was spent with your partner, friends or family.

Family Paella Night!

Friday night saw A and I creating our signature dish once again. Ok, let’s be serious, I drank wine while A played chef, but we’re not splitting hairs here!

The whole tribe descended on our little pad for our outdoor meal delight (we have no room for indoor hosting so Winter is out for dinner parties), including Mum, Dad, sister’s K and E and big O and baby O. Plus Tessie goes without saying!

As A prepared our delicious meal we played with baby O as he is just so delightful. Not sure what he thinks of Auntie K??

Here is the final result!

Highlights of the week

Meeting my glorious nephew O has been surreal, life changing and inspiring. He is just a delight (spot the helicopter Aunty!). I am in love.
But not to forget my number 1b love - Mr T.

Hope you're having a great weekend.
