Does fear come with age?

Last week A and I had dinner with his colleague P, his wife D, and two children 8 and 6. It was a lovely evening of good company, lots of laughs (and average food, but we won't go into that).

As the school term was fast approaching I asked the boys if they were excited about heading back to school, to which they both proclaimed, "No, school is so boring!". Child 8 went on to say, "I can't wait until I'm an adult, life will be so much better!"

This got me thinking. As a child, all you want to be is to be older (amongst many other things) so that you can have more control over your life. You want to be able to make decisions for yourself, buy what you choose and go wherever you like. But seeing it from the other side, it's really not all it's cracked up to be.

I thought as I got older I would fear less. Surely the monsters in the cupboard can't get you if you're all grown up?!? But I have actually found it to be the opposite. Here are two lists to compare.

8 year old H feared:
  •  Monsters in the cupboard
  • The dark
  • Missing out on Home and Away
29 year old H fears:
  • Real monsters on the street
  • The dark
  • Missing out on Keeping Up with the Kardashians
  • Burglars
  • The telephone (don't even ask)
  • Doing something wrong
  • Missing out (on anything that I deem worthy - concerts/events/catch ups/holidays)
  • Having a child
  • Not having a child
  • Being a bad parent
  • Losing A (note - this list is in no particular order)
  • Having no money
  • Having a car crash
  • Getting mugged/robbed/assaulted etc
  • My dog getting stolen out of my backyard
  • My dog running away
  • Family members or friends getting sick
  • Getting fired
  • Making poor choices
  • Having regrets
  • Many many more things....
Phew, quite a list really. Life was so much simpler.

Run run run!

The situation was dire. I was in desperate need for new runners to ensure that my health and fitness goals were not sabotaged (first world problem?) so after discussions with friend and trainer E, I headed to The Running Centre in West Perth.

The team there do a great job and really are the experts when it comes to all kinds of running. The sales assistant was as chipper as she could be early on a Saturday morning (I suspect there may have been a slight hangover lingering) and went about fitting me for the perfect running shoe.

After a brief questionnaire whilst standing on a heat sensitive platform it was concluded that I have 'neutral' feet. She then filmed me while walking on a treadmill (a view that I never need to see again - arse close ups are never good) and she explained the type of shoes I could go for.

This is one pair that she selected, and being an Asics fan I was happy (the purple may have won me over). They are light yet supportive and very comfy!

I would highly recommend The Running Centre if you want to be sure that you are getting a quality shoe that is right for you. And with a $20 voucher for me and a friend, it really is a winner!

See you on the pavement.

T Dog Tuesday

Hello peeps!

Hope you have all had a smashing week.

This week has been another great chapter in the world of T Dog. 'That' baby is still here (hmmmmm, not impressed) but I have been doing my best to look on the bright side.

Mum bought me some of my all time favourite tennis balls from City Farmers - what a star that lady is. They squeak when I bite them and I can howl along in tune. It really is a Grammy worthy performance in my house every night. Tickets are available at the door (byo chair).
You may notice that I have scored a new hairdo (if you are a true T Dog fan you would definitely notice) and I am loving the airflow. Dad insisted that I keep my mullet, and I am cool with that - I can make anything look good!

On Saturday afternoon, Mum and I dropped Dad and Uncle O at the Cottesloe Beach Hotel (boring!) and then headed down to the beach to check out the ladies (ok maybe that last part was just me). She really is my favourite parent, but I wish she would stop screeching, "Tobeeeeeeee, look at me Tobeeeeeee" every time she wanted a pic! Just relax lady, it is hard work being this good looking!

As you can see I was shattered after the beach (or maybe I am just trying to drown out Mum's awful music - change it up lady, no one likes Whitney that much!)

See you next week team.

Miracles do happen...

OMG. Something out of this world happened the other day. It was a once in a blue moon occurrence. Hell froze over and a pig flew by.

A did the dishes. WTF.

Ladies, miracles do happen.

Where will the next step be?

A and I have been toying with the notion of investing in our dream home soon-ish with the idea of renting it out for the next 5 years before we move in. The thought of this kind of financial commitment is very scary but also liberating and exciting to look to the future.

We have always wanted to live closer to the beach and A loves Fremantle, so we have been looking around the Bicton, East Fremantle, Attadale area. There have been a few duds (why do homes always look so good on the net??), but this is one that we both really like.

It is so surreal to be looking at family homes (I still feel like I am 21!) and having to think about number of bedrooms, school locations and entertaining at home - as opposed to the cost of the taxi fare home from the pub.

We won't be buying anything just yet (at least until we do some serious number crunching) but we will keep searching until we find just the right place. I will keep you informed of our progress.

Highlights of the week

Meeting my glorious nephew O has been surreal, life changing and inspiring. He is just a delight (spot the helicopter Aunty!). I am in love.
But not to forget my number 1b love - Mr T.

Hope you're having a great weekend.
